Love & the Maypole

Vanity FairGeorge Wolfe Plank

An extremely prolific artist, George Plank (1883-1965) produced hundreds of magazine covers – mostly for Vogue – but also for Vanity Fair. This one is entitled “Love and the Maypole”, from the very early 1900s. Plank had a distinct, bright-colored, delicate style. Google his full name for images, and you’ll find countless examples — although, typically, there is little to find about this particular cover.
